The Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center is a nonprofit organization formed to preserve, protect, present and promote the heritage of the East Tennessee region; the unique history and rich culture of the residents and Native Americans who inhabited the East Tennessee mountain communities that were incorporated into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and its surroundings.

The Heritage Center is located on a five acre site along state highway 73 in Townsend, Tennessee.

In the summer of 1927, the Victor Talking Machine Company tapped producer Ralph Peer for an important task: find the next big thing in American music. To Peer, Bristol looked like the perfect place to scout—the city had a passenger rail line, a main street straddling the border of Virginia and Tennessee, and was central enough to North Carolina, Kentucky and West Virginia to get a musical sample of the mountains.

Blue Mother Tupelo is ever-so aware of the rich musical history of this beautiful region in upper east Tennessee. Ricky quite possibly would never have picked up a guitar or sang a song if it weren't for his late uncle Bus, who picked, sang & rambled with the likes of Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family and some of the early recording artists out of Bristol. Bus played and sang the country hillbilly blues using a pocket knife to slide the guitar strings and he inspired Ricky's dad, other uncles and cousins to play music - and hence, Ricky was born into this family of music thanks to the roots from Bristol.

In the same way Ralph Peer summoned artists to the streets in 1927, Bristol calls its musical children home to the Rhythm & Roots Reunion. Blue Mother Tupelo is truly honored to be included in the line up. The line-up of artists is the strongest ever and promises something for everyone, old and young alike. More about the legend, Pinetop Perkins:
PINETOP PERKINS is one of the last great Mississippi Bluesmen still performing. He's made a living playing Blues since 1926 and is widely regarded as one of the best Blues pianists. Pinetop has worked with many Blues legends; some include Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, Robert Nighthawk and BB King to name just a few. He's created a style of playing that has influenced three generations of piano players and will continue to be the yardstick by which great Blues pianists are measured. *Driving south on hwy 61 stay on the bypass until you see the hwy 49 south exit to Greenwood. Hopson's Plantation is about a 1/2 mile from the bypass on the right, Hopson-Pixley Rd.

*Driving west on hwy 6 you get on the bypass, 61 south then off at the Greenwood exit, 49 south, Hopson's Plantation is about a 1/2 mile from the bypass on the right, Hopson-Pixley Rd.

*Driving north on hwy 49 north coming from Greenwood you take a left on Hopson-Pixley road. Hopson's Plantation is only 1/2 mile from the overpass.

(Once you turn on Hopson-Pixley road you go over the railroad tracks and take the 1st right in front of the Hopson Commissary.)
